It is always a wee punishing stepping into Mona Moore and not go into rapture. The boutique, with its spinning mirrored disco ball and neon pink silhouette of a woman’s midsection, is filled with the kind of shoes, bags and baubles that belong on a lit Lucite pedestal.
I popped in briefly yesterday during a flyby on Abbot Kinney to see shop owner Lisa Bush and her fabulous crew there, Vincent Ehly and Sara Van der Mijnsbrugge.
But I was heavily distracted by these three pairs of new peep-toes by Brit designer Chrissie Morris. Vincent and Lisa picked up the line in Paris, but it couldn’t be more apt for a town back-dropped by the Hollywood sign.
Chrissie, who is championing the preservation of Italian footwear craftsmanship having purchased a factory there, emphasizes designs cut from exotic leathers and inspired by esoteric concepts as disparate as Cubism and the night sky. She describes her designs as “woman-friendly yet decadent.” I couldn’t agree more.
