Because time is far from on my side during Christmas, when Nina was born, I set my sights on Valentine’s Day. Each year for the last four, I rally Andy and galvanize Nina into being a part of whatever wild concept photographer Ramona Rosales and I dream up. In this case, Ramona suggested a snow angel (a.k.a. my 3-1/2 year old) atop an endless outpouring of candy hearts. Even with the miracle of Photoshop, it was necessary to tap a small hill of bags of the heart-shaped sugar tablets. I sourced them from a place that could also supply me with whopping two-inchers of these vintage candies . Cuckoo as these shoots might be to subject the family to, I treasure each set-up for how they reveal the inevitable reshaping of life.
Happy Valentine’s to you and yours.
