My life is a marathon. But tonight’s run in the name of art, commerce and camaraderie is a trial of endurance likely to strain even this Ever Ready Bunny.
Andy and I—as A+R—join Libertine, Rodarte, Mr. Cartoon, Jeremy Scott, Katy Rodriguez & Tony Alva, CITIZEN: Citizen, Undefeated, Band of Outsiders and three dozen other fellow stylish screwballs in the Paper 24-Hour Department Store, kicking off at 6 p.m. sharp tonight and closing at 6 p.m. Saturday.
This is the second year the downtown culture bible is presenting this ultimate in public pop-up events, and the fourth year the magazine invades Los Angeles with its band of writers, photographers, deejays, artists and jesters. On this end, Paper relies on a gang of us locals, and every year it’s a bigger hoot to be involved.
At the helm of this merry bunch are Paper founders Kim Hastreiter and David Hershkovitz, whose passion and perseverance is always a revelation.
For this latest incarnation, the 9,000-square-foot, West Hollywood space was artfully transformed by Johnston Marklee, the folks behind the Maison Martin Margiela store in Beverly Hills, the Honor Fraser Gallery in Culver City and (one of our favorite eateries) The Hungry Cat in Hollywood.

Like many of us, Levi’s signed on again. This go-round, the mega brand will present the 24-Hour Chop Shop, with artists creating works on the spot, repurposing denim and God knows what else.
And Converse is presenting 24 bands in 24 hours, from the Chapin Sisters to Lady Tigra. That should keep us up into the wee hours...
