Sebastian E's Plywood Chair |
The Design edition of
The New York Times T Magazine is out. On the way to Coachella yesterday, the mag made for useful reading. While we already carry many of the newest items featured, including the Future Flora lamps, as always we devoured the features and delicious photography. It was the story on the plywood "revival," though that, admittedly, raised a brow. After all, from the shelves of OK and the new Heath stores to the homes of architect Barbara Bestor, shoe retailers Lisa Bush and Scott Vineberg and yours truly, plywood has long been a staple of SoCal living, a standard material we inherited from our Modernist forefathers and have reimagined to great effect since then. But we won't fault those Easterners for finally catching on. Pilar Viladas' historical primer on plywood is worth the read, and she highlights many of the best new works such as the bent chair shown here by Chilean Sebastian E.
