The public is more familiar with bad design than good design.

It is, in effect, conditioned to prefer bad design, because that is what it lives with.

The new becomes threatening, the old reassuring.

California Design Biennial in Sunday's L.A. Times
Fergie soars in this custom Michael Schmidt ensemble
Great start to the week thanks to Booth Moore's feature in Sunday's Image section of the Los Angeles Times on the California Design Biennial at the Pasadena Museum of California Art--specifically, the fashion category that yours truly is curating.
Been so mad crazy working on it, in fact, that I've scarcely had time to share the process here. But I will be telling you all about each designer, and have coverage of this Saturday night's opening, in the weeks to come.
The show runs through October 31, so please make the time to check it out.

Artisan Lauren Coleman was in A+R recently installing several of her exquisitely rendered terrariums. Made under the Litill name, each glass container is mouthblown according to Lauren's design. She then carefully constructs an ephemeral mini-world inside with handpainted elements, sparkling minerals and crystals and uncommon succulents. We have 8 instore right now. Visit.
