Yes, Katy Perry is everywhere these days. And that includes this month's cover of Harper's Bazaar (actually two different covers), in a feature that I wrote for the magazine.
Katy managed to squeeze in the shoot and what turned out to be a leisurely interview at Figaro, a favorite Frenchie bistro of ours on Vermont Avenue in Los Feliz. I was supposed to only get 45 minutes. But once we realized all the times we met before, long before she "Kissed a Girl," and she brought up the long nights she'd spend at Star Shoes, a nightclub on Hollywood Boulevard that I co-owned once upon at time with a bunch of friends, we both eased into our beat-up leather chairs and treated the two-hour afternoon like a snack break from our harried lives. In her case, Katy was just days away from boarding a plane to India to exchange "I do's" with the love of her life.
The fluctuations of the print world being what they are these days, about a third of the feature had to go, which is sad since it would've have presented a fuller profile of the phenom she is than the usual who and what and wear (yes, the wear) of her as a personality.
I don't keep her on my iPod and find some of her crazier looks revivals of some of the get-ups my girlfriends pulled off in the 1980s (yes, hot pink and leopard vinyl and all), in person, yet I have always found Katy absolutely charming, real and gracious—exactly the kind of individual whom you can't help but wish the best for in this cuckoo life. Forthcoming as she was off the record, she wished to keep certain aspects of her personal life private on the record. In this celebrity slutty world, that, my friends, is a sign of class and sanity.
she looks great. i've been loving the way she has been dressing lately...post-marriage that is. a very demure, fashionable version of her usually kooky self.
