The ink isn't dry yet, but it appears French actress Audrey Tautou will replace Aussie Nicole Kidman as the new face of Chanel's iconic No. 5 fragrance. It's been four years since Nicole first appeared in the campaign, so her days are inevitably numbered. And it just so happens the buzz (it's not official yet) comes as production is underway for Audrey's turn as Gabrielle Chanel before she was a legendary fashion icon in the French-made film "Coco avant Chanel," which is slated for a 2009 release.
It doesn't take a marketing genius to dissect the film's timing will be just after the spots for No. 5 hit (likely before the holiday shopping season?). For the campaign, Audrey is said to reunite with director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, whose 2001 “Amélie” catapulted the actress to international fame.
It won't be a simple task. Some of the most iconic ads ever have centered around No. 5, including Nicole's turn in those sumptuous cinematic commercials directed by Baz Luhrmann and filmed by Mandy Walker.
