Just as the temps are soaring, allowing insouciance to creep into dressing, it seems reminders are everywhere not to let those sparkling baubles or glossy red lip tubes collect dust (just read my prior postings).
Reminding me of this, albeit inadvertently, is my Spanish pal Valentin Toledo, who sent me this vid clip of the uberfabulous Mina Mazzini.
Mina (first name is plenty, thank you) has been a major Italian pop star since she hit TV there in 1959, in part because of that voice. But just as much an appeal to fans were her sensual moves, that extravagantly glamorous look almost bordering on camp, or alien (bleached blonde hair, shave eyebrows), and a rebellious cigarette-waving posturing.
When Italy’s major network tried to ban her from TV because she wasn’t willing to hide her pregnancy–with a married actor–her fans roared and, in no time, she was entertaining them again.
Obviously, a certain Mrs. Richie has been riffing this diva’s look forever. Touche. Mina herself counts among her 76 million records sold her own version of Madonna’s “Into the Groove,” released a year after the original in 1988.
Watch this clip to the very end. This summer it’s absolutely about Camp Mina.
