NY Fashion Week: L.A.M.B.’s Bullseye

Is she a rocker or a mod? Gwen Stefani has always worn her heart on her sleeve, literally—from sampling her design icon Vivienne Westwood to culling dance hall culture. Before a full house Tuesday night that included fellow Angelenos Shirley Manson and Eve, P. Diddy (wha?) and hubby Gavin and baby Kingston, Gwen and her co-designer Zaldy went all out with L.A.M.B.’s Spring ’08 onslaught of mini shifts (including an all-lace black and white target motif), red plaid shrunken blazers, and skinny ties that would make even the hardest Rude Girl giddy. And it’s not simply because of the Specials and Selecter tunes, or the back screen flickering with images of Lambrettas and Two-Tone graphics. Rockers had their moment, too, with pencil skirts, shrunken motorcycle jackets, lace tops with silver zippers at every seam, and the kind of frothy prom dresses Lily Allen could live in. Danilo’s beehives worked all around.

Gwen could even be excused for the platform heels, which resembled ol’ Viv’s—but standing at a height that didn’t threaten the models’ walk down the plank.
