Lucky me. For the trunk show I hosted (last night) for bag designer Raven Kaufmann, Juan Carlos Obando transformed me into a right and proper lady for the evening with a look from his February runway show in New York–custom cut and fitted for my non-sample-size frame. The craftsmanship in executing the two-piece ensemble was remarkable, from the lining in the slim sleeves to the hand-stitched spine and generous folds at the shoulder. It took me back to another life when the master tailors in Richard Tyler's atelier would fashion a gown or suit for me with breathtaking skill and speed.
J.C. and his right hand Amy Adams wrapped up the look with a pair of the copper leather and black silk ribbon Manolo Blahniks he collaborated on with the Spanish shoe designer. Amy spent the better part of 40 minutes painstakingly lacing and tugging and lacing each stiletto. As I set off from their Silverlake studio to the event, I felt like Doña Cinderella!
