No necktie or golf club would do for this Father’s Day. If your dad is a respected doctor and educator in pediatric urology, the best gift ever has to be $2 million toward your life-long cause.
That’s the tidy sum raised Thursday night at a grand dinner given at the grand 90210 estate of Jefery Levy and Pamela Skaist-Levy, half of the Juicy Couture dynamic duo. When it was announced Pam’s pop, Dr. Leonard Skaist, would be honored by Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for his decades devoted to pediatric urology, including 45 years on staff at CHLA, the couple opened up their homes, Rolodex, pocketbook and whatever else it took to make it a memorable night for her father.
Sure, besides Pam’s family, including mom Elaine, some of her prominent fashionable pals turned out, including Jacqui Getty, Tracey Ross of the eponymous Sunset Plaza shop (in a fierce Tom Ford-era YSL white suit), costume designer Susan Becker and her director hubbie Harold, as well as William McComb, ceo of Liz Claiborne, Inc., whose 2003 acquisition of the Juicy brand has turned it into a billion-dollar power house. And the couple tapped old friends such as Beverly D’Angelo and Jon Lovitz to MC through dinner, which was personally helmed behind the scenes by Wolfgang Puck.
But none of that seemed to matter more than the doctors being feted, including Dr. Skaist. This might’ve been a fundraiser with a fat purse thanks to the connections of Pam and Jefery, a director. But it was no fashion party. Instead, it was an evening that honored a father’s work on terms fitting for a man who’s always had children’s interests at heart.
Happy Father's Day to all dads who make a difference, small or large, in the lives of children, whether their own or those of others.
Even the smallest donation can support life at CHLA.
